Saurap Sampang enjoys impressive start to the season

Saurap Sampang went into this season fully aware that it is a crucial campaign for his development.

The 17-year-old sees his scholarship contract expire at the end of the season and it isn’t currently clear whether he will be offered a professional deal.

Sampang’s start to the season, however, has been hugely impressive and if he continues to perform to this standard then he will surely be rewarded with an extended stay.

Mainly a central midfielder, Sampang, who progressed all the way through the ranks at Hale End, brings a lot to the team with his energy and technique.

The youngster is also capable of filling in at right-back if required and he featured in that position as a substitute for the U21s against Crystal Palace last weekend.

Sampang followed that up by scoring a fine goal for the U18s against Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League Cup and he certainly seems to be playing with a lot of confidence at present.

In the first half of last season Sampang didn’t feature at all for the U18s as he had to be patient for an opportunity to play.

Now, though, he is established as a key figure at that level and will be determined to push on even further.
