Arsenal have just released an official statement that signals an end of an era

Arsenal are among the most successful teams in the history of English football.

The Gunners have won 14 league titles and a number of other trophies over the years, the first of which came in the 1930/31 season.

Arsenal have had many different successful eras since, with the current one under Mikel Arteta proving to be successful as well.

In the meantime, a different era has come to an end.

Reiss Nelson’s Arsenal departure signals an end of an era

Reiss Nelson joined Arsenal as an eight-year-old in 2007.

The attacker came through the ranks at Hale End, impressed everyone in the Gunners’ academy and even broke into the first team as a teenager.

Nelson had the potential to become a star, but for one reason or another, the Englishman just didn’t reach those levels.

On Thursday, Arsenal officially announced that Nelson had mutually agreed to terminate his contract, and he is a free agent now.

That brings an end to the Arsene Wenger era at the club.

Nelson was the final player in Arsenal’s squad to have played a game under the legendary Frenchman. He made his debut under him in August 2017 before making 15 more appearances.

Now, Arsenal don’t have a single player in their squad who was managed by Wenger – every single one of them made their debuts either under Unai Emery or Arteta.

Nelson was Arsenal’s longest-serving player, but following his departure, Bukayo Saka gets that title.

The current number seven joined the Gunners when he was just eight years old back in 2010, and he has definitely fulfilled his potential so far.

Saka is one of the best wingers in the world, is a starter for club and country, and is one of the captains at Arsenal under Arteta.

If he continues on the same trajectory, Saka will end his career as an Arsenal legend, potentially with a lot more than just one Premier League title to his name.
