Scout could not believe Arsenal did not sign Newcastle new signing

Nico Gonzalez moved to Newcastle United from Manchester City after the Magpies lost Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal, and his early form has raised questions over whether the Gunners should have signed him instead.
For much of his spell at City, Gonzalez struggled to establish himself in the shadows of Rodri. He was expected to receive more opportunities after the World Cup winner moved to Barcelona, but City instead decided to sell him to Newcastle.
Gonzalez has made an impressive start to life at Newcastle in the first few games he has played for the Magpies. His performances have now led to questions about whether Arsenal missed an opportunity by not considering a move for the midfielder.
Arsenal chose Guimaraes
Arsenal were convinced that Guimaraes was the best player they could have signed to improve their midfield. The Brazilian is very experienced, and he showed his quality during matches for the Brazilian national team at the World Cup.
A move for Guimaraes made sense for the Gunners, particularly because of the experience and quality he could bring to their midfield. Arsenal have therefore had no doubts that he was the right player for them at this point.
However, Gonzalez could have offered another option. Considering how impressive he has been since moving to Newcastle, it is fair to question whether Arsenal should have also considered making a move for him.

King questions Arsenal decision
Scout Bryan King believes Arsenal should have looked more closely at Gonzalez before he joined Newcastle. His early performances have clearly caught the attention of the former goalkeeper, who feels the midfielder could have been a better option than another Newcastle signing.
King highlighted his assessment of Gonzalez and compared him with Sandro Tonali before expressing his surprise that Arsenal did not pursue the player. He said via Football Insider:
“I mean, when you looked at the Newcastle boy, the boy Gonzalez, looked a far better prospect than what Tonali did, who came from Newcastle for massive money.
“I’m surprised maybe Arsenal never went for him, you know.”
Gonzalez will now have the opportunity to prove his quality at Newcastle, while Arsenal will hope Guimaraes can justify their decision to make him their preferred midfield signing.
