Director says they beat Arsenal to sign La Liga youngster

Pablo Garcia has gone viral for crying after being sold to Racing de Santander by Real Betis, the club he has played for since he was a child.
Betis had to make space for Dani Ceballos and decided to move Garcia on, but the youngster could have left La Liga altogether. It has now emerged that Arsenal were among the clubs interested in signing him before he eventually moved to Santander.
The Gunners had a busy summer transfer window, with several players leaving the club, while a few new arrivals joined the defending Premier League champions. Arsenal were not interested in doing business simply for the sake of it and instead focused on signing players who could add genuine value to their squad.
They wanted top-quality players and can argue that they achieved that before the transfer window closed, after working hard to strengthen the team.
Arsenal showed interest in Garcia
Garcia is a fine player, but he is only 20 and had only recently started playing for the Betis senior team. As a result, he could have struggled to get regular game time at Arsenal if the Gunners had completed a move for him.
Despite that, Arsenal were interested in signing the youngster and appeared to have made progress in their pursuit. His eventual move to Racing de Santander means the Gunners missed out on another promising young player.
Garcia’s departure from Betis was clearly emotional, particularly after spending so much of his childhood with the club. However, his future could have looked very different if Arsenal had completed their interest.

Arsenal move falls through
Racing de Santander Sporting Director Chema Aragon revealed how close Garcia appeared to be to joining Arsenal before the situation changed. He said via Metro Sport:
‘It seemed like it was done with Arsenal, and then we came in too on loan.
‘Yesterday things changed, and what seemed to be a loan turned into a shared ownership deal.’
The comments suggest Arsenal were seriously involved in the negotiations before Garcia eventually joined Santander. For the youngster, the move represents an important opportunity to continue developing his career and gain more senior experience.
