How Takehiro Tomiyasu performed for Crystal Palace vs Man City one year after leaving Arsenal

Takehiro Tomiyasu made his first start in the Premier League for Crystal Palace in their defeat to Manchester City.

The Japanese defender mutually terminated his contract with Arsenal last year after a series of injuries stopped him from playing regularly.

Tomiyasu spent a short spell at Ajax in the second half of last season, but he is now back in England and has signed for Crystal Palace.

On Friday night, the former Gunner made his first Premier League start since leaving Mikel Arteta’s side.

Manchester City smashed four past Crystal Palace to pick up a dominant win at Selhurst Park.

Takehiro Tomiyasu started the game as a centre-half on the left side of a back three, and he actually started the game pretty well.

The Japan international was positionally strong, dealt with balls into the box well and made a few good interceptions too.

However, as the game went on, City grew stronger and battered Palace to win the game 4-1.

Sofascore have released their ratings for the game, and Tomiyasu, unfortunately, has been rated as the worst player on the pitch with a score of 5.7/10.

Conceding four goals is always going to reflect badly on a defender, but Tomiyasu did produce a few eye-catching moments.

In his 74 minutes on the pitch, the former Arsenal man made three interceptions, four clearances and three ball recoveries.

Of course, he can do a lot better, but we think Crystal Palace fans should not write Tomiyasu off just yet.
