Baby Wanders Onto Pitch During Minnesota United’s Commanding 5-1 Win Over San Jose Earthquakes

Minnesota United defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 5-1 on Saturday in a Major League Soccer match that produced one genuinely unexpected moment in stoppage time.
With the result already decided, a toddler wandered onto the pitch at San Jose’s PayPal Park, bringing play to a halt near midfield in the closing minutes.
Apple TV analyst Kyndra de St. Aubin delivered a line rarely heard on any sports broadcast when she calmly noted what was unfolding in front of her.
“Oh … there’s a baby on the field,” de St. Aubin said, as players and officials paused while the situation was quickly assessed and resolved.
The pitch-level broadcast camera did not immediately capture the toddler, but a swift cut to a sideline angle revealed a referee carefully handing the child to a stadium staff member.
Judging by the broad smile on the toddler’s face, the youngster appeared thoroughly unbothered by the commotion, seemingly enjoying every second of the unexpected adventure.
The child was swiftly escorted to the sideline and passed to a woman waiting there, though whose child walked onto the field was not reported.
Remarkably, this was the second time in just over a year that a baby wandered onto the pitch during an MLS match, following a similar incident in June 2025 during a DC United versus Chicago Fire game.
On that previous occasion, a child ran toward the penalty box and came close to entering the middle of active play, drawing widespread attention across football media at the time.
Minnesota head coach Cameron Knowles had plenty to smile about after the result, with his side snapping a difficult nine-match losing streak to move to 7-7-7 on the season.
United’s improved record places them 10th in the 15-team Conference West, while the Earthquakes dropped to 10-8-3 and held onto fourth place despite the heavy defeat.
When asked about the toddler’s brief pitch invasion after the final whistle, Knowles offered a lighthearted take on what had been an already eventful afternoon for everyone at PayPal Park.
“You could hear the noise and then you’re looking to see what it is,” Knowles said, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press’ Andy Greder, drawing laughter from those gathered around him.
