Fabrizio Romano confirms Ethan Nwaneri has now agreed deadline day loan move away from Arsenal
Transfer deadline day is here and Arsenal’s business is underway.
Gabriel Martinelli is expected to complete his move to Al Hilal, while Gabriel Jesus is heading to Barcelona.
Fabio Vieira is set to return to Hamburg on a permanent deal.
Those three departures alone will bring in a guaranteed £67million in sales plus add-ons, while stripping around £500,000 a week off the wage bill.
That will go a long way towards bringing in a new attacker before the deadline should they choose to.
And now, the first major piece of news of the day.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Ethan Nwaneri has agreed a season-long loan move to Borussia Dortmund.
The German club will cover his £80,000-a-week wages for the move.
It contradicts earlier reports that Nwaneri was keen to stay in the Premier League, but hopefully Dortmund will work out a lot better for him than Marseille.
Dortmund have an outstanding track record with young English talents.
Jude Bellingham went there as a raw English teenager and left as one of the best midfielders in the world. Jadon Sancho’s breakthrough also came at the Westfalenstadion.
The club could be the perfect platform for a player at Nwaneri’s stage of development.
Staying at Arsenal this season made little sense, with so many options ahead of him in the pecking order. Meaningful minutes were always going to be difficult to get at the Emirates.
What Nwaneri needs above everything else right now is consistent game time. Week in, week out. The pressure of performing at a top European club. The experience of playing in the Champions League. Dortmund offers all of that.
Hopefully it goes well and he reaches the level we know he can get to.
