Sources: Arsenal's Nwaneri set for Dortmund loan

Arsenal midfielder Ethan Nwaneri is heading to Borussia Dortmund on loan, sources have told ESPN.

The 19-year-old is set to travel to Germany to undergo a medical before completing a temporary switch that contains no option to buy.

Sources say the Gunners continue to view Nwaneri as a bright long-term prospect having awarded him a five-year contract last summer.

However, he has struggled to break into the first team with Mikel Arteta prioritising more experienced options and all parties believe a temporary switch would be the best way to continue his development.

Nwaneri was due to travel to Germany on Tuesday morning ahead of a medical and the completion of a deal in which sources say Dortmund will cover the entirety of the attacking midfielder's wages.

Nwaneri spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille, where he made nine appearances and scored two goals.

His spell in France was complicated by the departure of head coach Roberto De Zerbi, whose ability to develop young players was publicly cited by Arteta at the time as one reason for allowing him to join Marseille.

However, shortly after Nwaneri arrived at the club, De Zerbi left his post following a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Dortmund have been tracking Nwaneri for some time and made the move after losing new signing Giannis Konstantelias to a serious knee injury.
