Martin Odegaard got his second goal in as many games this evening, his strike to make it 3-0 meant he has already beaten his total from last season – even if there was a touch of good fortune to the finish.

The Arsenal captain had a difficult time with injuries throughout the last campaign, but looked sharp during the World Cup and followed that up with two very good performances against Man City and against Coventry this evening.

Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, he admitted he found it tough to find his best form because of the stop-start nature of his season, but insists he’s feeling better positioned to produce something closer to his best.

“I think last season was a big struggle for me,” he said.

“I think I had too many injuries and a lot of weird situations, a lot of bad luck. I could really never find the rhythm.

“It’s hard when you always go in and out, and sometimes you play maybe not 100 percent fit. It was hard, but I feel good now. My body is good.

“I had a good summer, a good World Cup, a good pre-season. Now I’m feeling 100 percent, so that always helps. I feel great.”

At times, with Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Ben White combining to great effect down the right hand side, it felt like a throwback to days when that trio caused Premier League defences all kinds of problems.

“I think we’ve played so many games together, the three of us,” said Odegaard.

“Probably two or three seasons ago, we played almost every single game together. We know each other really well and I think we complement each other really well.

“I think you can see that there.”
