Arsenal set condition to sign Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen

Arsenal are prepared to pursue a deal for Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, provided he is willing to accept a pay cut on his current hefty salary, according to Foot Mercato.

The Gunners are aiming to bolster their frontline before the transfer deadline, and Osimhen has emerged as a candidate with Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez reluctant to join the club.

Foot Mercato claim Arsenal held talks with Galatasaray for the Nigerian star earlier this month, and they continue to monitor his situation at the Turkish Super Lig champions.

However, the Gunners have no plans to proceed with a formal transfer bid unless Osimhen accepts a sizeable pay cut, as his current net salary of £17.1 million per year is ‘unreasonable’.

The Premier League holders remain ‘highly interested’ in signing the former Napoli man and remain hopeful that he will lower his demands to join the club before the transfer window closes on September 1.

Osimhen has the choice to make

The 27-year-old had a good 2025/26 season with Galatasaray. He notched up 22 goals and provided another eight assists in just 33 appearances in all competitions.

The former Lille ace has started the new campaign in an exceptional fashion with four goals and an assist in just two matches. So Arsenal’s interest does not surprise us.

Osimhen is in the prime phase of his playing career up front. The Nigerian star has developed into a quality finisher and would provide solid competition up front for Arsenal.

Kai Havertz has been exceptional with goals in his last four starts as a striker for the Gunners, but there are still questions surrounding the future of Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus.

Jesus is very much on the way out, having been excluded from recent matchday squads, but Gyokeres’ situation could be a topic of keen interest before the window concludes.

The Swede was an unused substitute against his former club Coventry City yesterday. This never happened to him in the Premier League and Champions League last term, a hint he could be sold.

In Osimhen’s case, the ball is currently in his court. He is on a net salary of £329,000 per week at Galatasaray, which potentially means a gross salary of £620,000 weekly in the UK.

Arsenal have no plans to come close to that figure, according to Foot Mercato, and the onus is on Osimhen to accept a hefty salary reduction for the Gunners to make a transfer offer.
