Mikel Arteta may have just made sure Gabriel Jesus' record will never be broken

Gabriel Jesus has officially left Arsenal.

The Brazil international played a massive part in helping the Gunners become Premier League title contenders, and he deserves credit for his part in getting them over the line.

However, this summer was the right time to move on, and Arsenal sold Jesus to Barcelona on transfer deadline day.

Jesus leaves with one very impressive record still intact, and Mikel Arteta may have helped him keep it forever.

Gabriel Jesus’ departure brings an end to his near-decade-long stay in the Premier League.

The Brazilian joined Manchester City from Palmeiras in January 2017 and went on to play 236 times for them in all competitions. 159 of those appearances came in the Premier League, and he scored 58 goals.

Then, after joining Arsenal in 2022, Jesus played 84 more times in the English top flight and netted 21 goals.

In the games he scored in for Arsenal and Manchester City, Jesus never ended up on the losing side – a run stretching 65 games.

That is a Premier League record for most games unbeaten while scoring.

The only active player who is close to that record is his former Arsenal teammate Gabriel Martinelli, who has scored in 38 games and not lost any of them.

By selling him to Al-Hilal just days after Jesus’ departure, Arteta may have just made sure that the latter’s record will not be broken anytime soon – maybe never.

All the other players in the top 12 of that list are no longer in the Premier League, with the last name, Seamus Coleman, only boasting 22 unbeaten games while scoring. (Opta)

That keeps Jesus’ record safe for the foreseeable future, and if we were to guess, we think nobody will break it.
