Ethan Nwaneri has now given his transfer preference ahead of the deadline

There has been a lot of talk around Ethan Nwaneri’s future this summer.

After falling down the pecking order considerably last season, the teenager left on loan to Marseille with the aim of getting regular minutes.

That didn’t happen, and the move just didn’t work out at all.

Nwaneri was given a fresh chance to impress this summer for Arsenal during pre-season, and he has now seemingly done enough to remain in North London.

Arsenal still rate him really highly, and will now only consider loan offers for the 19-year-old.

Now, according to Sky Sports, Nwaneri’s own preference has emerged, narrowing down the field significantly.

Ethan Nwaneri wants to stay in the Premier League

Indeed, the latest development is that Nwaneri isn’t keen on going abroad again, following a difficult spell in France.

The attacking midfielder has made clear he would even rather stay at Arsenal than repeat that experience at another foreign club.

Instead, he will only leave if an attractive offer comes in from another Premier League club before Tuesday’s deadline.

As things stand, that offer is yet to come, suggesting Nwaneri could remain at the Emirates beyond the window after all.

Mikel Arteta will be keen for Nwaneri to go out and get regular football given the other options Arsenal have in the number 10 position.

Minutes will be limited here this season, but with Martin Odegaard turning 28 this year, and Eberechi Eze already 28, a pathway will open up for Nwaneri if he’s patient.

His reluctance to go abroad is understandable though. A Premier League loan would be the ideal solution.

Somewhere like Bournemouth would be perfect for him (and could even grease the wheels for a move for Eli-Junior Kroupi down the line).

Fulham and Everton are other clubs that have been loosely mentioned as possible destinations, both of which he would immediately improve.

But if nothing materialises, Nwaneri will stay this season. And with another 60-game season ahead, perhaps that wouldn’t be the worst outcome.
