Arsenal might genuinely have a player worth £150m after what David Ornstein has just reported

The transfer market has completely lost its mind.

We already knew that, but now it’s just getting absurd.

David Ornstein reports that Nottingham Forest are working on a deal to sign Harrison Armstrong from Everton for around £40million plus a sell-on clause.

Armstrong is just 19 years old, and has made just 50 professional appearances. He has scored two goals.

For Everton specifically, he has made 22 first-team appearances, after spending loan spells at Derby County and Preston North End in the Championship.

He is, by all accounts, a promising young midfielder. But £40million? Forty. Million.

Myles Lewis-Skelly might genuinely be worth £150m

Now consider what Arsenal have in Myles Lewis-Skelly.

This is a guy, also 19, who started a Champions League final. He played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s Premier League title run-in. An England international who should have gone to the World Cup.

If Armstrong is worth £40million, then what on earth is Lewis-Skelly worth?

Earlier this summer, when those putrid rumours of him being offered to Chelsea and Manchester United were circling, his price was being quoted at £45million.

That figure was laughable even then, but looks more absurd now in the context of Armstrong’s value.

Even Elliot Anderson, — a good player, no question — who went to Manchester City for £116million off the back of one really strong season. Alex Scott is another — £80million Bournemouth reportedly value him at.

But unlike Lewis-Skelly, those guys have no Champions League experience. Lewis-Skelly bossed Real Madrid, played Atletico Madrid off the park, and didn’t look at all out of place up against PSG in the final.

Looking at these other prices for young English midfielders and factor in the age, the quality, the versatility, the ceiling that appears to have no ceiling, and the Champions League credibility, then surely Arsenal have a £150million midfielder on their hands.

Selling him would be unforgivable, and fortunately that isn’t going to happen. But the proposed deal for Harrison Armstrong at least gives Arsenal an astronomical figure to point at if anything was ever to advance for Lewis-Skelly.
