Jamie Carragher says why Ezri Konsa to Arsenal reminds him of Eberechi Eze’s signing

Ezri Konsa is officially an Arsenal player and looked on from the stands tonight as his new team cruised to three points against Coventry.
Konsa’s arrival is yet another signal of intent from the club that they intend to keep on improving.
However, it does leave Arsenal with a wealth of talent in defence now, with multiple players able to play in that right-back position Konsa played so often for Aston Villa.
Indeed, according to Jamie Carragher, there is a feeling of Arsenal simply reacting to a situation when it comes to Konsa’s arrival.
Jamie Carragher tips Ezri Konsa for bench role at Arsenal
Konsa will be keen to break into the team immediately and it remains to be seen if he’ll be deployed at right-back or more centrally for now.
Regardless of that, Sky Sports pundit Carragher believes Arsenal have signed Konsa because of William Saliba’s injury, much like when they landed Eberechi Eze last summer.
“It reminds me a little bit of the signing of Eze last summer, where Arsenal just reacted late in the window to an injury, I think you remember last season Havertz got an injury and they went and bought Eze. It reminds me the same,” Carragher commented.

“They’ve just gone and bought a really good Premier League player to do a job for us, for a certain amount of time, and then eventually when the big boys come back, they’ll be a fantastic squad player for them.
“Eze’s on the bench for Arsenal tonight. I think eventually when Saliba’s back, it will be the case with Konsa. But there’s still plenty of games, that’s the nature with the big clubs now.”
As Carragher says here, it feels like Arsenal have indeed reacted to the situation.
However, Konsa is not leaving Aston Villa to simply sit on the bench and there’s no way Arsenal have spent over £50m to sit him there either.
Ultimately, this is what Mikel Arteta is being paid the big bucks for. He’ll need to make the big decisions and have those difficult chats with players.
But rest assured, Konsa will play his part this season.
