Odegaard and Konsa react to 2-1 win over Chelsea
Martin Odegaard and Ezri Konsa spoke to Sky Sports after the Gunners 2-1 win over Chelsea this evening.
Here’s what they had to say.
On winning a ‘heavyweight’ game…
MO: Yeah, definitely. It was a big game, massive game. Tough opponents, you know, really hard for us. They’re a really good team, you know, so it was a big fight and somehow we got there in the end, so yeah, brilliant.
On Konsa feeling properly like an Arsenal player now …
EK: I felt at home from the first moment I joined. The boys have been top, the staff have been top and yeah, to make my debut at home and take three points is the most important.
On going 1-0 down so early …
EK: It’s part of football. Things happen, it’s all about how you react. You know, over here I know we’re big on clean sheets. So yeah, disappointing, but like you said, it’s about how we reacted. We reacted fantastically. And, like I said, the most important thing is the three points.
Are Arsenal adding layers to their game this season?
MO: Yeah, I mean, that’s our mentality, you know, we always want to keep fighting. I think we showed that many times. Conceding early is never ideal, but I think the reaction was top, as you say, and I thought we played really well in the first half. We could have scored some more goals, we kept on playing in the second half and we got our reward in the end.
So yeah, I think it was a brilliant performance. I think we showed them today our quality with the ball, without the ball, and I think the result reflects that.
On having three goals so far this season and his relationship with Havertz …
MO: He’s a really smart player. He moves so well, you know, and he takes a lot of attention from the defenders. So when he makes the run there and I come from behind, you know, I’m always free.
On Konsa’s big tackle on Rogers …
EK: It got the crowd going. Look, it’s one of those ones, if I get it wrong, it’s bad, but if you get it right, it’s always a good feeling.
I thought second half we could control the game a bit more, kept the ball for a bit longer, but like Martin said, I thought we were fantastic overall. Defensively, going forward we created chances, and on another day I think we score three or four.
