Ezri Konsa could now do what no new Arsenal signing has done since 2015

Arsenal’s summer transfer window has been busy once again.

The Gunners have already passed the £150m mark with their spending, and with an elite attacker still on the agenda, Arsenal could still have one big final trick up their sleeve.

As of right now, Arsenal’s most recent signing is Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa, and the England international could be in line to make his debut for the club this week.

Konsa has been in training with his new teammates for a little while now, and he appears to be rested and ready after a busy summer.

As debuts go, Konsa could be in line for a tough start to life at Arsenal.

Ezri Konsa could debut against his former club

If Konsa is to make his debut for Arsenal on Monday, he would be debuting against his former club, Aston Villa.

The Villans head to Arsenal with plenty of problems. Their squad has been gutted after European success last season, and Konsa has been one of the key casualties.

Of course, you can never write off any team managed by Unai Emery, but, at the moment, Villa do appear to be there for the taking – as showcased by their 4-0 loss to Brighton last week.

Konsa could be set to make his debut against his former club – something that is quite rare in the modern game.

The last Arsenal player to debut vs their former club

Arsenal have signed a number of players from Premier League rivals in recent years.

The likes of Kai Havertz, Bruno Guimaraes, Noni Madueke, Declan Rice and Ben White were all signed from Premier League contemporaries.

However, despite shopping within the Premier League often, no Arsenal player has debuted against their former club in 11 years now.

Indeed, the last player to do this was Petr Cech back in the 2015 Community Shield.

Arsenal won 1-0 that day with Cech keeping a clean sheet against his former side, and, on Monday, Konsa will be looking for a similar result.
