Report – Hashi scores; schoolboys Munoz and Maghoma start as Arsenal U18s beat Southampton

Maalik Hashi scored the only goal of the game as Arsenal U18s secured their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory at home to Southampton today.

Schoolboys Luis Munoz and Jaden Maghoma both made their first starts at this level, while Callan Hamill returned from injury and first years Joshua Sesay and Charlie Purdy were both given opportunities to impress.

Emerson Nwaneri and goalkeeper Jack Talbot were unavailable due to suspension. Jack Porter was called upon as he became the first overage goalkeeper to start for Arsenal at this level since Hubert Graczyk in 2021.

Arsenal went ahead in the 16th minute, with Hashi finding the net.

Saurap Sampang replaced Hamill ahead of the second half, with Bowen Phillips and Abraham Owusu-Gyasi later entering the fray.

Arsenal managed to see out the win and it is hoped that they will now be able to build up momentum.

This victory was made more impressive by the fact that Southampton had started the campaign with three successive wins.

Meanwhile, Arsenal U16s thrashed their Southampton counterparts 7-0 in the national qualifiers, with Mikael Bonaventure Yetna scoring a hat-trick and providing three assists.
