Chelsea could welcome injured key players back against Arsenal

Chelsea take on Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend, and the Blues could welcome Moises Caicedo back into their squad for the game.

The midfielder is one of the most important players in the Chelsea team and will always start matches when fit. However, the Ecuador star has missed two of Chelsea’s three competitive games this season because of injury.

Caicedo played a few minutes in their last match, but he is still being hampered by the same fitness problem. With the Arsenal game approaching, it remains uncertain whether he will be fit enough to get meaningful game time.

The Gunners are one of the teams to beat as they look to retain the league title they won last season. Chelsea will therefore be keen to make headlines by becoming the first team to beat Arsenal this term.

Caicedo’s fitness remains uncertain

Caicedo is regarded as one of the best midfielders in Europe, so when he is available, he will always be expected to play. His presence in the middle of the pitch can give Chelsea greater control and improve their chances of getting a positive result.

However, Chelsea cannot afford to take unnecessary risks with the midfielder. His recent injury problem has already limited his involvement, and the Blues will need to be certain that he is ready before deciding whether to use him against Arsenal.

The match represents a major test for Xabi Alonso and his players. Chelsea have started the season well, but facing Arsenal will provide a clearer indication of how they can compete against the strongest team in the league.

Alonso provides Caicedo update

Ahead of the game against Arsenal, Alonso was asked about Caicedo’s fitness and explained that a final decision would be made after another assessment.

He said via the Chelsea website:

‘We will check tomorrow. Tomorrow is the last decision for the squad on Sunday

‘We need to not be worried. These things can happen and we need to check. Tomorrow we will make the final decision.’

Chelsea will therefore wait before confirming whether Caicedo can feature. The Blues will hope their key midfielder is available, but his fitness will be assessed carefully before the final decision is made.
