Hamill’s return can help Arsenal academy

Versatility can be a very useful asset for youngsters who are attempting to make the breakthrough and Callan Hamill will hope that his qualities could prove beneficial at various academy levels this season.

The 17-year-old, who signed his first professional contract this summer, is now in his second season at Arsenal following his move from St Johnstone.

Hamill missed the whole of pre-season due to injury but he is now back in training and will be aiming to make a major impact.

The Scotland youth international is still eligible to feature for Arsenal U18s, who he often captained last season, and he will also be hoping to play for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League.

In addition, Hamill will be targeting further involvement with the U21s, although the recent signing of Habeeb Ogunneye from Manchester United may well have pushed him down the pecking order somewhat at right-back.

Given that he can also play at centre-back, Hamill will hope that he will still get some opportunities with the U21s as the season progresses.

The youngster is very hard-working and his constant desire to improve is a very useful trait.

In what will be a long and eventful season across the academy age groups, Hamill is a player who could make a significant contribution.
