Arteta still does not know when Saliba will be back

Mikel Arteta has refused to confirm when William Saliba will return to action for Arsenal after the defender was given an extended recovery period following his return from the World Cup.
Saliba has been an important player for the Gunners over the last few seasons and has established himself as a mainstay in their defence. However, the defender was troubled by a back issue last season, which affected his availability.
The problem was aggravated during the last World Cup, meaning Saliba struggled to complete the final games for his nation. Although he did not require surgery, Arsenal have given him additional time to recover fully from the issue.
The Gunners have also signed Ezri Konsa as a replacement during Saliba’s absence. The Englishman is capable and will now be expected to assume a significant role in the team as Arsenal continue to compete among the best sides in the league and in Europe.
Arsenal continue to wait for Saliba
Arsenal face Chelsea in their next game, and Saliba is not yet back in contention. His continued absence leaves Arteta without one of his key defenders, although the manager has cover in the position following the arrival of Konsa.
The uncertainty surrounding Saliba’s return means Arsenal must continue to monitor his recovery rather than set a firm date for his comeback. Arteta has made it clear that the defender’s recovery depends on how his body responds as he gradually increases his workload.
The Arsenal manager was asked when Saliba could return, but he was unable to provide a specific timeframe. Instead, he stressed that the club must respect the healing process and allow the defender to progress carefully.

Arteta provides Saliba injury update
Arteta told Arsenal Media: “We don’t really know the amount of weeks he’s going to be out because it’s about a healing process and everything is a bit different – we know we have to respect certain timings. The progression has been really positive in the last few weeks, but we need to wait and see how that one reacts when we start to put some load into it.”
The update suggests Saliba’s recovery has been progressing positively, but Arsenal will not rush him back. The Gunners will wait to see how he responds when more load is introduced before determining when he can return to competitive action.
