Mikel Arteta jokes he has changed 'Win' the dog's name after last season's Premier League triumph

Mikel Arteta jokes he has changed 'Win' the dog's name after last season's Premier League triumph

Forget the players and the coaching staff; one of Arsenal’s most popular figures at their training ground is Win, the dog.

The chocolate-coloured Labrador has been around for a few years now, and everyone at the club absolutely adores her.

The idea behind bringing Win to Arsenal was Mikel Arteta’s, as he looked for new ways to help his side achieve their goals.

Now that one of those targets – winning the Premier League – has been achieved, the dog’s name may have changed.

Arsenal ended their 22-year wait to win the Premier League title last season.

The Gunners were hit by several injuries throughout the campaign, but they still managed to get over the line ahead of Manchester City in the end.

That showed incredible character, desire, and most importantly, the will to win, which was one of the reasons why ‘Win’ the dog was brought in.

“Her name is Win, we all love winning, and Win needs a lot of love. So, the ‘love for Win.’ That is basically it,” Arteta said back in 2023, as per ESPN.

But what happens now that they have won the Premier League title? Well, Arteta has joked that he has changed the dog’s name.

Speaking about Win in an interview with Men in Blazers, the Arsenal manager said: “We change now; instead of ‘Win’, it’s ‘Won’.

“And now we’re going to put (on her collar): ‘We want to win again.'”

That is clearly a joke, but the ambition is clear for everyone to see: Arsenal are not done after just one trophy; they want more in the upcoming campaign.

Arsenal are best placed to win the Premier League again

Arsenal start the new Premier League season as the clear favourites to retain their title.

The Gunners were the best team in the country last season, and with the additions of Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimaraes, they have become stronger.

Furthermore, most other big teams have changed their managers and/or are in transition, which makes it less likely any of them will challenge for the title.

Arsenal haven’t retained a league title since the 1930s, and they won’t get a better opportunity to end that run.
