The personal ‘stumbling block’ currently stopping Arsenal from signing Julian Alvarez
Arsenal are still working hard to strengthen their squad before the transfer window shuts and the name of Julian Alvarez is one that keeps cropping up.
Alvarez is one of the premier strikers in Europe and after impressing at Atletico Madrid over a number of seasons, he’s now a wanted man.
Barcelona were super keen on signing the former Man City man, while Arsenal have also made their feelings clear.
However, while a potential deal with Atletico could be agreed, David Ornstein has revealed there is a personal issue with Alvarez that could stop the move.
Julian Alvarez has an issue preventing him moving back to England
Gary Neville noted this last night but if Arsenal did indeed sign Alvarez, it would make their squad almost impossible to compete with.
Arsenal are still knocking at the door and clearly, have funds available to do business if needed.
However, speaking to TNT, David Ornstein has revealed that Alvarez himself is not as keen on the idea of signing for and English club.
“Arsenal would like to improve their frontline further. That is why they are so keen on Julian Alvarez, but I’m not sure Alvarez is so keen on a move back to England & that could be the stumbling block.,” Ornstein revealed.
“I think if push came to shove, Atletico Madrid would do a deal to Arsenal – as opposed to Barcelona, the doors are closed there. They like Kenan Yildiz, but the doors are closed from Juventus.”
It’s interesting that Ornstein mentions that Atletico might be open to doing business here.
The idea of adding a player of Alvarez’s quality to this already brilliant Arsenal side is quite scary for the other teams in the league and Europe.
Furthermore, you’d have to question if Viktor Gyokeres would have a future if Alvarez did sign.
Nevertheless, you have to be ruthless to be the best and if Alvarez did arrive, he’s simply an upgrade on the current Arsenal strikers, it’s that simple.
