Director says Arsenal almost signed the new Raul Gonzalez on deadline day

Arsenal did not sign anybody on transfer deadline day, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t try.

Andrea Berta knew all summer that the Gunners needed a world-class signing in attack, and a few big names were linked.

Arsenal tried to sign Julian Alvarez, Vinicius Jr and Morgan Rogers, but none of those deals materialised.

On transfer deadline day, the Gunners seemed to be on the verge of signing someone else, but they pulled out at the last minute.

Arsenal were close to signing Pablo Garcia on transfer deadline day

If you are a football fan on social media, you would’ve surely come across a video of Pablo Garcia recently.

The Spaniard had spent all his life at Real Betis, but on transfer deadline day, he was sold to Racing Santander.

Garcia was spotted leaving the club with his mother, both in tears, as they bid goodbye to the only club he has known since he was five.

Racing have now signed the talented winger, but their sporting director, Chema Aragon, has claimed that the original plan was for Arsenal to sign him and then loan him to them on deadline day.

The Gunners backed out late in the window, so Racing signed him on a permanent deal.

Aragon said, as per The Metro: “It seemed like it was done with Arsenal, and then we came in too on loan. Yesterday things changed, and what seemed to be a loan turned into a shared ownership deal.

“I would describe Pablo Garcia as Raul Gonzalez Blanco. What he has, above all else, is a nose for goal, that killer instinct, and he usually puts it away.”

For those who don’t know who he is, Garcia is a 20-year-old attacker who can play in all three forward positions.

The youngster made a great name for himself at Betis this season by scoring the winner against Valencia a week before transfer deadline day.

At that moment, we’re sure that Garcia would’ve dreamt of achieving big things at the club, but just a week later, he was pushed out.

We don’t know how genuine Arsenal’s interest was, but Garcia is definitely one to keep an eye on for the future.
