The one reason Arsenal fans shouldn’t be too excited about Christos Tzolis, we’ve been here before

We don’t want to go overboard, but Christos Tzolis might just be the best player in the world.

The Greek winger looked absolutely electric on his re-debut in the Premier League for Arsenal against Coventry on Friday, and there’s reason to believe this young man is going to the very top.

Of course, we are kidding when we say that Tzolis is the best in the world, but the way that some are speaking about him at the moment, you would be forgiven for believing that is the case.

Arsenal fans have already fallen in love with Tzolis, and while he looks like a top player, there is a word of warning we must share after his first league appearance.

Christos Tzolis expectations should be tapered

Christos Tzolis looked incredible vs Coventry, but let’s be real here. That was a home game vs a newly promoted side, you’d expect most wingers starting for this Arsenal team to have a field day here.

A new winger signing starring against a newly promoted side on his debut for Arsenal? Where have we heard that before?

Back in 2020 you may remember that Arsenal played a newly-promoted Fulham side on the opening day of the season, and on that day there was another new winger signing in the Tzolis role, shining on debut.

The player in question was Willian.

Willian got a hat-trick of assists against Fulham on his debut, and, at that point, it did look like the Brazilian would be a star for the Gunners.

Of course, it didn’t quite pan out that way, Willian had a horrific season before leaving on a free transfer at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Now, there’s no saying that Tzolis will follow in Willian’s footsteps, but there’s also no saying that he will constantly improve from his debut outing.

The reality is that Tzolis still has a lot to prove, he struggled in the Premier League last time around with Norwich City and he needs to build on this good start.

There will, inevitably, be bumps in the road for Tzolis, and, right now, it’s best for Arsenal fans to keep expectations realistic in order for the player to be able to thrive and grow in an environment where he doesn’t have too much pressure on his shoulders.

We don’t expect Tzolis to be the next Willian, but we’ve seen before the dangers of fans getting too hyped up by a great debut against poor opposition.
