Why Mikel Arteta 'shouted' at three Arsenal substitutes vs Napoli, 'it was so interesting'

Arsenal made the game against Napoli much tougher than it needed to be.

The Gunners were dominant from start to finish in the Champions League opener in Italy and completely deserved to win the game.

However, the 1-0 scoreline is by no means a fair reflection of the performance, which is why there were some nervy moments late in the game.

One of them prompted an angry reaction from Mikel Arteta.

On Wednesday night against Napoli, when Arsenal were leading 1-0 late in the game, three players faced the wrath of their manager for not tracking back.

Those players are substitutes Noni Madueke, Kai Havertz and Christos Tzolis.

Lucy Bronze, who was on commentary on TNT Sports, said: “Mikel Arteta was absolutely raging on the sidelines that Havertz, Madueke and Tzolis weren’t recovering after that attack.

“It was so interesting. As the Arsenal attack finished, those three all sort of ambled back, and Mikel Arteta ran down the sidelines and shouted at them to recover.”
