Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Matchweek following a stunning performance against Chelsea on Sunday.

Odegaard claimed 31% of the public vote, narrowly beating Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, who registered 30% in the final tally.

Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney was particularly effusive in his praise, writing that Odegaard is a “captain, leader, and a massive winner.”

Deeney also suggested that summer speculation linking Odegaard with a departure from the Emirates was “scary,” given how important he is to Arsenal’s ambitions.

The 27-year-old has made a blistering start to the 2026/27 season, scoring three goals in Arsenal’s first four Premier League games.

Two of those goals have come against big-six opposition, with Odegaard finding the net against both Manchester City and Chelsea in what has been a remarkable opening run.

It represents a significant turnaround for a player who endured serious injury problems throughout the 2025/26 campaign, raising questions about his long-term future at the club.
