“They’re a different level” Frank Lampard gives big praise to Arsenal

Frank Lampard’s Coventry were unstoppable in the Championship before they gained promotion back to the top flight after such a long time away from England’s main division.

However, their first game back was a tough baptism of fire as they were well beaten by Arsenal last night, and the former Chelsea midfielder admits that the Gunners are on a different level.

Arsenal have remained one of the best teams on the continent, and they are the defending champions after winning the league last term. They are now looking to retain the trophy.

Coventry’s priority is to remain in the top division before they think about winning trophies, and they know how difficult it will be to achieve that now.

They can already tell that this level is not as easy as the Championship, and if they learned nothing else from the Arsenal match, they will know that they have to improve.

Lampard admits Arsenal were superior

It is unfair to compare Arsenal with other teams because the Gunners are champions and probably the best team in the league. Lampard acknowledged their quality after the match, saying via Hayters:

“Arsenal were amazing. They’re a different level.”

“You have to give Arsenal credit,” he added. “They were very, very good.”

Lampard’s comments show just how difficult Coventry’s return to the top flight was. They faced the defending champions immediately, leaving them with little opportunity to ease themselves back into life among England’s best teams.

Coventry must learn from defeat

The result should give Coventry a clear indication of the level they need to reach if they want to remain in the division. Arsenal exposed the difference between the two sides, but Coventry will have plenty of opportunities to improve as the season progresses.

In the next few weeks, Coventry should become more accustomed to the demands of the top flight, and they should also take some pride from the fact that the score remained respectable against a team that could have embarrassed them further.

For now, Lampard and his players must put the defeat behind them and focus on the matches that will have a greater bearing on their hopes of remaining in the division. Arsenal were simply too strong on this occasion, but Coventry can use the experience as motivation to improve.

The challenge ahead remains significant, but the opening defeat does not have to define their season.
