Major Arsenal blow: £75m star faces spell on sidelines after injury setback

Major Arsenal blow: £75m star faces spell on sidelines after injury setback

Arsenal have suffered a major injury blow just hours before kicking off their 2026-27 Premier League campaign.

According to journalist Luke Edwards, summer signing Bruno Guimaraes has picked up an untimely injury that could keep him out for a few weeks.

Guimaraes started in the sensational 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield last weekend.

He completed five passes into the final third and made three defensive contributions.

He also won 100% of his duels, showcasing the combative edge that convinced Arsenal to make him a key target.

However, his afternoon was cut short when he was withdrawn at half-time and was later spotted on the bench with an ice pack strapped to his thigh.

Arsenal completed the £75 million signing of Guimaraes earlier this month, making his potential absence an especially frustrating development.

The Gunners had identified the Brazilian as a priority target and refused to give up despite Newcastle United’s reluctance to part with their captain.

Guimaraes ultimately told the Magpies that he wanted to join Arsenal, clearing the path for the Premier League champions to land their man.

Arsenal now face newly promoted Coventry City tonight in their opening Premier League fixture, with manager Mikel Arteta potentially forced into an early reshuffle.

Declan Rice could step into Guimaraes’ midfield role alongside Myles Lewis-Skelly, who produced a commanding display against Manchester City.

Arteta will desperately hope the £75m recruit makes a swift recovery and returns to action quickly as Arsenal begin their title defence.
