Chelsea's worst player against Arsenal was painfully predictable

If there's one thing you could say about Emi Martínez, it's that he is unfazed by most occasions. The exception to that rule, of course, is his former club, Arsenal.

For whatever reason, it feels like Martínez chokes whenever Arsenal come to play. In his second performance for his new club, Chelsea, he basically handed Arsenal the win on a silver platter (not that the Gunners didn't deserve the win, of course). By a considerable distance, he was Chelsea's worst player.

Martínez was exposed at his near post to grant Kai Havertz (of all people) his second goal of the season and Arsenal's equaliser.

The Argentinian "shot-stopper" has conceded a whopping five goals in two games since joining Chelsea, by the way. Let that be known.

There really didn't need to be any bad blood between Arsenal and Emi Martínez. He has gone on to be legitimately one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and it could very easily have been a case of Arsenal fans supporting him.

However, that's not the case. Martínez is petulant and insists on rage-baiting Arsenal fans, which is quite hilarious considering what tends to happen whenever he plays against Arsenal. Admittedly, that behaviour has stopped since Arsenal, for the most part, have had his number.

The simple fact of the matter is that Martínez was not good enough to play for Arsenal. He has, obviously, become a world-beater since he left the club, but it doesn't change the player he was at Arsenal. This is the same guy who conceded five goals against Reading.

Speaking after the game, Chelsea fans were quick to point at Emi Martínez as being a standout performer for all the wrong reasons.

In his assessment of the game, The Pride of London's James Fudge said, "[Martínez] could have done much better for Kai Havertz’s goal, with his step to the right ultimately costing him as the shot found the near post. I was never fully convinced by him in the first half; at times, he looked little more than a slightly improved version of Robert Sánchez."

At Aston Villa, it was much easier for Arsenal fans to root for Martínez's every success. However, he chose to play for Chelsea, and it makes cheerleading impossible now.

After all, everybody knows the real reason why anyone signs for Chelsea in 2026, and it's far from footballing integrity.
