‘Champions don’t stand still’ – Kroenkes outline major Arsenal ambition

Arsenal co-chairmen Stan and Josh Kroenke have reiterated their determination to build sustained success at the club after last season’s long-awaited Premier League triumph.

The Gunners begin their title defence against Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night, having already started the campaign by beating Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield.

Writing in their message ahead of the new season, the Kroenkes made clear that ending Arsenal’s 22-year wait for the Premier League crown is intended to represent the beginning rather than the culmination of the club’s project.

“Champions don’t stand still; they evolve and keep moving forward,” they wrote, before outlining their ambition to continue strengthening Arsenal on and off the pitch.

The owners described sustained success as “one of the greatest challenges in sport” but insisted it is one Arsenal embrace with “determination and ambition”.

Their comments echo Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s recent assertion that the club should now aim to build a dynasty rather than allow last season’s breakthrough to reduce their hunger.

Arsenal have already demonstrated that ambition in the transfer market, adding Bruno Guimaraes, Christos Tzolis and Illan Meslier to the senior squad while making Piero Hincapie’s loan move permanent.

Those additions have come alongside several departures, with Leandro Trossard, Christian Norgaard, Jakub Kiwior and Karl Hein among those leaving as Arsenal continue reshaping a title-winning squad.

The Kroenkes acknowledged that “evolution can mean tough decisions in the pursuit of progress”, with further movement still possible before the transfer window closes.

Arsenal have also made changes below first-team level, appointing Pascal De Maesschalck as academy director as part of what the owners described as a commitment to developing “one of the world’s best academies”.

Their message also placed considerable emphasis on the relationship between the club and its supporters, which has become an important part of Arsenal’s resurgence under Arteta.

Stan and Josh described the Premier League trophy parade as more than simply a celebration, arguing that it demonstrated how Arsenal’s community and team increasingly fuel one another.

That connection has previously been repeatedly highlighted by Josh Kroenke during his engagement with supporters and has remained a central theme of the ownership’s public messaging.

Attention now turns towards translating those ambitions into further silverware.

The Community Shield provided an encouraging start, with Arsenal comfortably overcoming Manchester City before beginning their Premier League defence against newly-promoted Coventry on Friday.

“The goal is to win more trophies,” the Kroenkes added.

After finally reaching the summit last season, their promise is clear: Arsenal intend to keep investing, evolving and pursuing the sustained success that could turn one historic campaign into an era.
