‘I’d love to play with him’: Paul Scholes names 2 Arsenal midfielders in his current top five

Paul Scholes knows a thing or two about being a brilliant midfielder and he’s been singing the praises of two of Arsenal’s top stars.

Scholes won countless medals with Manchester United and is widely regarded as one of the greatest midfield players in Premier League history.

Now settling into his role as a pundit and podcaster, Scholes is known for being brutally honest in his assessments of current Premier League midfielders.

Now, the former England and Man United man has picked out two Arsenal stars among his best five midfielders.

Scholes is not always an easy man to please when it comes to midfield.

Having been so successful but playing the game so simply, Scholes often picks up on things midfielders can improve on and is quick to say who he does and doesn’t rate.

However, when asked on The Good, The Bad and The Football who his top five current midfielders are, he named both Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice in there.

“I’d have to say Odegaard, I’d really like to play with him, if I’m naming number tens,” Scholes commented.

Going on to add Rayan Cherki, Cole Palmer and Bruno Fernandes, Scholes then went for Declan Rice as his defensive midfielder in the five.

Scholes has had mixed opinions on Rice over the years but in the last season he seems to have been converted into being a big fan.

The former United ace has previously suggested that Rice can add more goals to his game and also control games more, something which Rice has improved on.

As for Odegaard, the idea of seeing Scholes and Odegaard linking up in little pockets is the stuff of dreams.
