Falkirk Sign DC United Forward Jacob Murrell On Two-Year Deal With Option For Third

Falkirk have completed the permanent signing of American forward Jacob Murrell from MLS side DC United, bringing fresh attacking options to the Scottish Premiership club.

Manager John McGlynn says the new arrival will bring “something different” to the Bairns’ current squad, suggesting the club are targeting a distinctive profile with this addition.

Murrell arrives on a two-year deal, with Falkirk holding an option to extend the agreement by a further year, giving the club significant long-term flexibility.

The 22-year-old was the seventh overall pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft after coming through Georgetown University, marking him out as one of the more highly-rated prospects to emerge from that intake.

Murrell has already accumulated meaningful top-flight experience, having played 51 times across two campaigns for DC United and contributing 4 goals and 4 assists in 65 appearances across all competitions.

Before turning professional, Murrell claimed the Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award, a prestigious honour recognising the finest high school soccer player in the United States.

He scored his first professional goal against Philadelphia Union in May 2024, and later earned widespread attention for a dramatic bicycle kick against Inter Miami in stoppage time.

McGlynn spoke enthusiastically about what Murrell brings physically and technically, saying: “He’s a big, strong boy, he’s 6’2″, but he’s also very mobile. He likes to get in behind and he’s got a real eye for goal. He’s still only 22, so we think there’s a lot more to come from him.”

DC United’s managing director of soccer operations, Dr. Erkut Sogut, paid warm tribute to the departing player, saying Murrell “grew into a professional over three seasons” and “gave this fanbase moments they will remember for a long time.”

Murrell will wear the No. 24 shirt at Falkirk and could make his debut away to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership as early as next weekend.

In other news concerning the club’s schedule, the SPFL has confirmed that Falkirk’s postponed home fixture against Hearts will now take place on Tuesday, September 15, with kick-off scheduled for 7:45pm.

That match had originally been due to be played this weekend but was called off following Hearts’ involvement in the UEFA Conference League play-off round.
