Hashi looking to re-establish himself as key figure for Arsenal U18s

Arsenal U18s struggled for consistency in terms of results last season and it has also been a concerning start to the new campaign in that regard.
A goalless draw against West Bromwich Albion was followed by a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Ipswich Town yesterday, which indicates that there is much work for Adam Birchall’s team to do as they look to improve.
Maalik Hashi is now one of the most experienced players in the squad – he turns 18 next month, has played over 30 games for the U18s and already has a professional contract.
However, a little surprisingly, Hashi has initially been named on the bench for both of the U18 games so far this season.
Hashi actually ended up starting against West Brom after Jayden Oba suffered an injury in the warmup and he was then brought on for the second half against Ipswich.
One of the reasons behind Hashi’s omission may be so that the team has greater balance – he is a creative player and Emerson Nwaneri is starting to establish himself in the team in that regard.
However, a time when the U18s are struggling to score goals leaving out a player of Hashi’s ability seems like a somewhat bizarre decision.
Although he can lack consistency at times, Hashi is undoubtedly very talented in terms of how he links play and it will be intriguing to see how his development is managed this campaign.
