Arsenal are about to break a world record as Andrea Berta closes in on another signing

Arsenal haven’t been as active as their fans want them to be in the transfer market, but they have made additions to their squad.
Piero Hincapie’s loan deal was made permanent early in the window, and that was followed by the signings of Illan Meslier and Christos Tzolis.
Bruno Guimaraes was then brought in as a marquee signing, but there’s still a lot of work to do for the Gunners in this window.
Andrea Berta has now gone one step closer to fulfilling his objectives for the summer.
Arsenal signing Ezri Konsa will break a world record
Ezri Konsa has been a target for Arsenal since the start of the summer transfer window.
William Saliba and Jurrien Timber’s injuries have left the Gunners short of options at the back, and they have been looking at options to fill both roles, ideally with one player.
After weeks of speculation, Arsenal have now struck a deal to sign Konsa for £51 million plus add-ons.
That is a huge fee for a 28-year-old – it’s so big that it is actually a world record.

Just as Arsenal made Guimaraes the most expensive signing of a player aged 28 or over, the Gunners’ deal to sign Konsa will make him the most expensive defender of that age to be signed.
That record is currently held by Leonardo Bonucci, who was signed by AC Milan from Juventus for €42 million in 2017, when he was 30 years old.
The legendary Italian didn’t have a great time at the San Siro – he returned to Juve just a year later.
Hopefully, Konsa’s move will be much better for Arsenal in the upcoming campaign.
Ezri Konsa will also break an Arsenal transfer record
Arsenal have had the best defence in the Premier League in each of the last three seasons.
Mikel Arteta has phenomenal defenders at his disposal, many of whom are good enough to play for any club in the country.
However, what’s fascinating is that none of them really cost massive money. Ben White, who was signed for £50 million, is Arsenal’s most expensive defensive signing in history.
That record will be broken now when Konsa’s arrival is made official in the coming days.
