Tottenham transfer news: Spurs 'in race against time' to finalise Richarlison exit with backup January plan 'revealed'

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set out a January transfer plan for unwanted star Richarlison.

The 29-year-old was expected to join David Moyes's Everton side during the closing stages of the Premier League summer window, however, a deal between the Toffees and Roberto De Zerbi's men failed to materialise.

Richarilson has since been left out of Spurs' Premier League squad for the first half of the 2026-27 campaign, meaning that he cannot feature in the top flight for the Lilywhites until January at the earliest.

Looking to take advantage of this, Brazilian club Vasco da Gama have supposedly submitted a last-minute offer for the services of the 54-time international, looking to test Tottenham's resolve the desperation levels.

It is claimed that an initial bid of £9m has been rejected by the Lilywhites, who have until 4am on Saturday morning (September 12) UK time to offload the unwanted attacker before Brazil's transfer window shuts.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham have devised a strategy regarding the future of Richarilson if the North Londoners are unable to get rid of the 29-year-old in the coming hours amid interest from Vasco da Gama.

The report states that the Lilywhites would be willing to let the Brazilian depart for 'next to nothing' during the January transfer window, if the player's transfer saga unfortunately rumbles onto that point.

With Richarlison's contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium expiring during the summer of 2027, there is no chance that the attacker will sign a new contract, and the club are unwilling to offer a fresh deal in any case.

After being left out of Spurs' Premier League squad for the first half of the term, the forward is only able to feature in domestic cup competitions for the first team until January, namely the EFL Cup.

Therefore, in theory, Richarlison could take to the Anfield turf next Tuesday night, when De Zerbi's men face Andoni Iraola's Liverpool as two top-flight foes fight for a spot in the fourth round.

It is clear that Richarlison has ran his course in North London, but it remains to be seen whether the Brazilian can plot a successful route out of Tottenham before the close of Vasco da Gama's summer window.

The 29-year-old is edging towards a return to his homeland after a number of attacking arrivals in N17 this summer, including Omar Marmoush and Mykhaylo Mudryk from Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.

Following a three-game winless start to the Premier League term, it is clear that De Zerbi is yet to figure out his ideal forward line, but one thing is for sure: Richarlison is out of the equation completely.
