Theo Walcott thinks Arsenal will do something they haven’t done for 25 years

Theo Walcott knows Arsenal well enough to make bold predictions.

The two-time FA Cup winner made 397 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 108 goals over 12 years with the club.

He is 7th on Arsenal’s list of all-time Premier League goalscorers with 65.

Making his 2026-27 season predictions on TikTok, the former Arsenal winger has backed his old club to win the league and FA Cup double this season.

The last time Arsenal achieved that feat was during the 2001-02 campaign, a quarter of a century ago.

Those old enough will remember the dramatic fashion in which that season ended. The Gunners beat Chelsea 2-0 in the FA Cup final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, then clinched the Premier League title just four days later with a 1-0 win at Manchester United. Sylvain Wiltord’s goal sent the away end into delirium at Old Trafford.

Walcott thinks this current Arsenal side are capable of replicating it.

He’s not alone in his optimism for the Gunners. Gary Lineker backed Arsenal to win the league by ten points. Opta’s supercomputer rates them as Champions League favourites. The mood around the club is as positive as it has been in a generation.

Arsenal have won the League and FA Cup double three times in their history — only Manchester United have done that as many times.

Four Premier League wins from four and a winning start in the Champions League, Arsenal now have the squad depth to compete on every front.

The FA Cup campaign obviously doesn’t even begin for Arsenal until January, but if Walcott’s prediction is right, fans will be making another trip to Wembley next May.

25 years is a long time to wait. But having just ended a separate 22-year wait, this squad might just be ready to end it.
