Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris names the Arsenal player who impressed him so much

Sunderland put up a good fight against Arsenal but still ended up on the losing side.

The Premier League champions were made to work hard, and it was their toughest game of the season so far by a distance.

But Bruno Guimaraes’ stunner followed by a late penalty from Bukayo Saka sealed a 2-0 win in the end.

The goalscorers usually get all the plaudits, and rightly so. However, Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris hailed another Arsenal player after the game: David Raya.

Guimaraes’ goal was decisive and deserves all the praise in the world. But that may not have happened if the Gunners’ number one hadn’t stepped up.

Just a couple of minutes before Arsenal took the lead, Sunderland were awarded a controversial penalty for an apparent foul by Ezri Konsa on Dan Ballard.

Enzo Le Fee stepped up to take the spot kick, and his shot was saved brilliantly by Raya.

The Sunderland star’s penalty strike had a 94 per cent chance of going in, which makes the Arsenal number one’s save all the more impressive.

Everyone was impressed by Raya, even Le Bris.

He first said on beIN Sports: “Raya was impressive today. Probably the Man of the Match.”

Then, in his press conference, the Sunderland boss added, as relayed on HaytersTV: “Yeah, I think so (it was brilliant goalkeeping). Raya was absolutely impressive this evening.”

Arsenal have had many great goalkeepers in the past.

David Seaman and Jens Lehmann are the obvious names that spring to mind, while older fans will remember Bob Wilson and Pat Jennings as well.

All of them are big names in Arsenal’s history, but we think Raya will surpass them all before he hangs up his boots.

The Spaniard has been unbelievable for a long time now, and he is on track to become the first goalkeeper to win four Golden Glove awards in a row this season.

We think it’s only a matter of time before Raya will be recognised as Arsenal’s greatest-ever goalkeeper.
