Sorba Thomas latest: Hull City release 53-word statement after road traffic accident before Chelsea game

Hull City winger Sorba Thomas has been involved in a car crash close to the club’s training ground, the Tigers has confirmed.

The incident occurred on Friday morning on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham, with pictures circulating on social media showing Thomas’s car - a grey Land Rover Defender - flipped with broken windows.

Members of Hull’s coaching team were pictured appearing to assess the damage to Thomas’s car, while the club have now confirmed that the 27-year-old sustained no injuries.

“Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club’s Cottingham training ground,” a statement from the club’s website read.

The club is aware of images of Sorba’s car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed.”

Humberside Police have said that emergency services remain at the scene, as investigations take place and they asked for people to avoid the area during this period.

Sergej Jakirovic’s side were due to travel to London on Friday ahead of their Premier League clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Thomas is now expected to be left out of the Tigers’ squad, with Jakirovic set to provide a fresh update on the player’s condition when he next faces the media either before or after the Chelsea game.

Hull have enjoyed an exceptional start to life back in the Premier League since securing promotion via the Championship playoffs last season, accumulating seven points from their opening three games (W2 D1) and not conceding a single goal in the process.

Thomas signed for Hull from Stoke City on Transfer Deadline Day for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £7m.

The Wales international, who represented his country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is under contract at the MKM Stadium until June 2030.

Thomas made his debut for Hull as a substitute in last weekend’s goalless stalemate with Aston Villa, before playing the full 90 minutes in their narrow 1-0 defeat at Sunderland in the EFL Cup third round on Tuesday.
