Sam Allardyce explains why he thinks Arsenal won’t want to be given any of Man City’s titles

Sam Allardyce explains why he thinks Arsenal won’t want to be given any of Man City’s titles

Arsenal will be watching closely as Manchester City’s punishment from the Premier League begins to become more clear.

In case you somehow missed it, Manchester City have been found guilty of 114 breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules, and, pending appeal, they could be handed a serious punishment.

At the moment, it’s unclear what this punishment will be, it could range from a fine and a transfer ban all the way to a points deduction and relegation.

In fact, there’s even been talk of City being stripped of titles.

Of course, if City are stripped of titles, that becomes very interesting for Arsenal as they may feel they should be awarded two league titles for the seasons they finished second to Pep Guardiola’s side.

However, according to Sam Allardyce, speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Arsenal won’t want to be given these trophies.

Sam Allardyce makes Arsenal point after Man City charges

According to Allardyce, Arsenal won’t want to be simply handed these Premier League titles.

Indeed, Allardyce believes that Arsenal won’t want these titles as they will believe that they lost them on their own.

“I think they’ll look at it and say they lost it themselves,” Allardyce said.

“Brendan Rodgers had it in his hands and let it slip. Arsenal had it in their hands and let it slip. It wasn’t down to Man City overpaying at that particular time.

“It was about them failing to do it, because they were in front, they were points ahead.”

Mikel Arteta can make Arsenal statement by rejecting titles

There is a precedent for this sort of thing – in 1993 in France, PSG rejected the chance to inherit Marseille’s Ligue 1 title after they were caught up in a match fixing scandal.

There’s no saying that Arsenal will do the same here, but it would be one hell of a message for Mikel Arteta to send if he did.

Arteta would be telling his team that underperformance is unacceptable and if they want to be remembered as winners, they have to truly earn it.

That’s the sort of decision that can light a fire under a team and take them to that next level, and, in a way, it could be a great way to get the Arsenal squad raring for another push for the Champions League.
