Report: Arteta’s backroom staff set for new deals

According to The Athletic, Mikel Arteta’s backroom staff are negotiating new deals as Arsenal edge closer to announcing an extension for the manager.

We’ve known for some time that Arteta, who arrived as head coach in 2019 before being promoted to manager, has been in talks over his future, so it makes sense that his key lieutenants should be rewarded at the same time.

While David Ornstein’s report doesn’t name names, it’s reasonable to assume the group includes Albert Stuivenberg, Arteta’s right-hand man since day one, set-piece maestro Nicolas Jover, goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana Pavon and tactical assistant coach Miguel Molina. Collectively, they’ve worked together for more than five years.

The Evening Standard reported that they last agreed new terms in April 2025, seven months after Arteta signed his current contract.

Gabriel Heinze, who joined the coaching staff last summer, could presumably also be in line for improved terms following Arsenal’s Premier League success last season.

These days, of course, the wider backroom team includes a host of other specialists: video and data analysts, strength and conditioning coaches, physios, nutritionists, psychologists, sports scientists, doctors and kit managers. You name it.

As the organisation grows, so does the turnover, and there have been several comings and goings across departments this summer. Unlike the manager and his senior coaches, many of these specialists are likely to be permanent, full-time employees rather than working on fixed-term contracts.

As for when Arsenal might announce Arteta’s new deal, it’s unlikely to happen this week, with the club yet to film the accompanying content. Still, with the extended Interlull in full swing, there’s plenty of time to get it done before the Gunners resume their campaign against dirty Leeds on 10 October.
