‘Poor’: Alan Shearer shares his Bukayo Saka verdict after watching him for England
England beat Czechia 2-0 on Tuesday evening in what was a rather straightforward encounter for the Three Lions.
After a summer of drama at the World Cup, normality seemed to resume here with a routine win in the Nations League.
Arsenal were well-represented in this game, as you would imagine as Premier League champions with the likes of Myles Lewis-Skelly, Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka all representing their nation.
Frustratingly, it wasn’t an evening to remember for any of the three Arsenal players, and speaking on The Rest is Football, Alan Shearer didn’t give Bukayo Saka the most glowing of reviews after this game.
Alan Shearer’s Bukayo Saka verdict
Shearer gave his view on Saka’s performance against Czechia.
The pundit didn’t mince his words here, claiming that he thought Saka was poor in this game, claiming that he should’ve scored a goal and wasn’t clinical enough in those final actions.
“I thought Saka was poor again didn’t you?” Shearer began.
“Should have scored as well in the first half. He had a sitter, didn’t he, one of them? Was it when England hit the post, something like that?”
“The ball came back into him and he missed a big opportunity. Yeah, I didn’t think he was great, Saka.”
Bukayo Saka’s stats vs Czechia
Shearer wasn’t too impressed by how Saka played vs Czechia, and the stats paint a story of a player who wasn’t great.
The winger really didn’t make much happen, he didn’t put in a single accurate cross, he failed to contribute to a goal, and he made just one successful dribble during the game.
Saka has been in good form for Arsenal so far this season, but it would appear he’s just had a bad day at the office for England.
Luckily, England have two more games in this international break, and Saka will have his chance to put things right.
