Mixed fortunes for Arsenal U21s and U18s

Arsenal U21s and U18s were both in action yesterday on a busy day for the club’s academy.

Firstly, the U18s made it two wins in succession as they secured a 2-0 victory at home to Crystal Palace.

Emerson Nwaneri and Callan Hamill managed to get on the scoresheet, with schoolboy Jaden Maghoma setting up both goals.

The U18s struggled for consistency in terms of results last season and there were also some concerns at the beginning of this campaign.

However, under the guidance of coach Josh Smith they appear to have turned matters around.

Later in the day Arsenal U21s were beaten 4-1 by their Chelsea counterparts, with David Horseman’s side still searching for their first win of the season.

Despite the defeat there were still some positives to take from the game, with recent signing James Scanlon scoring his second goal in as many matches.

Habeeb Ogunneye, who joined Arsenal around the same time as Scanlon, suffered an injury that led to him leaving the ground on crutches.

Arsenal U21s are in action again on Tuesday night when they face Leyton Orient in the EFL Trophy and will be determined to secure a much-needed win following a heavy defeat by Barnet in their opening game.
