Mikel Arteta stopped Andrea Berta from making the biggest mistake in Arsenal's history
Like any other club, Arsenal have made many mistakes in their history.
Just in the Premier League era, losing Ashley Cole to Chelsea was a disastrous mistake, as was selling Robin van Persie to Manchester United.
Serge Gnabry’s exit is right up there as well, while an argument can be made that not re-signing Cesc Fabregas before he joined Chelsea was a humongous error.
Arsenal seemed to be on the verge of making a bigger mistake than all of the above in the summer, but Mikel Arteta stopped it.
Arsenal selling Myles Lewis-Skelly would’ve been their biggest mistake in history
Myles Lewis-Skelly is one of the most loved players at Arsenal.
A product of the club’s academy, the teenager has produced a number of excellent performances in the famous red and white over the last two years.
Despite that, many reports claimed in the summer that Arsenal could sell Lewis-Skelly, with clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United offered his services.
That would’ve been an unforgivable mistake.
Lewis-Skelly is already one of the best players in the Premier League, which is very rare for a 19-year-old.
The Englishman has been brilliant in midfield since the start of the season, so much so that you can easily say that he deserves to be starting over big-money summer signing Bruno Guimaraes.
Just like Cole and Van Persie, selling Lewis-Skelly to either Chelsea or Manchester United would’ve resulted in enormous success for either club.
Thankfully, that was stopped.
It has been revealed that talks about selling Lewis-Skelly took place behind Arteta’s back during the summer transfer window.
As soon as the Arsenal manager heard it, he made it clear to everyone involved, including Andrea Berta, that Lewis-Skelly was going nowhere.
We are so glad that happened, because seeing Lewis-Skelly in a Chelsea or Manchester United shirt would’ve been heartbreaking. In our opinion, selling him would’ve been the biggest mistake in the club’s history.
Thankfully, we won’t have to worry about that anymore.
