Mikel Arteta could now match an Arsenal record that was set over 120 years ago

Arsenal have broken several records since Mikel Arteta took charge of the club.

The Gunners were in a mess when the Spaniard arrived in 2019, but over the last six-and-a-half years, he has completely transformed them.

Arsenal won the Premier League title last season, and they are the favourites to retain their crown this campaign as well.

So far, Arteta has had a dream start, and he is now one win away from matching a record that’s almost thrice as old as him.

Mikel Arteta will match 123-year record if Arsenal beat Brighton

Arsenal have had a tremendous start to the new season.

The Gunners kicked things off with a stunning 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield in Cardiff. They have since beaten Coventry City, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Sunderland in the Premier League, while also picking up wins over Napoli in the Champions League and Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup.

That’s seven wins in a row for Mikel Arteta’s side to start the new season, which is an incredible record, considering that they failed to win a few of their pre-season games.

Arsenal now take on Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League next, in what will surely be a very difficult game.

However, if the champions manage to get all three points, they will equal a record that dates back to more than a century.

The last time Arsenal won each of their first eight games of a season was all the way back in 1903, when they were called Woolwich Arsenal and played in the second division.

In those eight games, the Gunners picked up two 8-0 victories over Burton United and Leicester Fosse, and also smashed Manchester United 4-0.

If Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal beat Brighton on Saturday, they will equal a club record that has stood for a staggering 123 years.

That would be an unbelievable achievement.
