Martin Zubimendi Set To Start For Arsenal Against Ipswich Town In Carabao Cup Clash

Arsenal are preparing to hand Martin Zubimendi his first start of the season as they face newly-promoted Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup.

The Spanish midfielder has been largely used as a substitute so far this campaign, drawing comparisons to the role Jorginho once filled for the north London club.

Much like the Italian veteran, Zubimendi has been offering control and composure from the bench rather than leading from the first whistle.

That is set to change against Ipswich, with the Carabao Cup presenting the ideal opportunity for Mikel Arteta to rotate his squad and hand fringe players valuable minutes.

Zubimendi was so imperative during his first few months at Arsenal, making his limited involvement this season all the more surprising to supporters.

Also in contention for starts are Viktor Gyokeres and especially Max Dowman, who are among those in need of exposure and game time at this stage of the campaign.

Mikel Merino is another name in the mix for the cup fixture, while Bruno Guimaraes could also feature as he builds back towards full sharpness following a couple of minor issues.

The situation at the back is more concerning for Arsenal, with Ben White a doubt after coming off against Sunderland and William Saliba already ruled out through injury.

Jurrien Timber has only recently returned from his own setback, but this fixture could represent the right moment to start him and allow him to build rhythm and confidence.

While a Carabao Cup exit would not be cause for major alarm, it would be equally disappointing if the depth Arsenal have cannot overcome newly-promoted Ipswich, especially considering they too are expected to make changes.
