Logan Farrington And Joaquín Valiente Fire FC Dallas To Third Consecutive Victory Over Portland Timbers

FC Dallas secured a crucial 2-1 home victory over the Portland Timbers on Saturday night, extending their winning streak to three games.

Goals from Logan Farrington and Joaquín Valiente were enough to see Dallas past a Timbers side that dominated large portions of the contest at Frisco, Texas.

The result moves Dallas to a record of 12-6-7 on the season, with the club now having won five of their last six matches in impressive fashion.

Farrington broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time, perfectly timing his run onto a ball played ahead by Shaq Moore before finishing clinically near the right corner of the six-yard box.

The striker’s first-touch shot slipped past goalkeeper James Pantemis into a wide-open net, giving Dallas a slender but deserved advantage heading into the break.

Valiente then put the game beyond doubt three minutes from time, capitalising on a Portland giveaway that set a dangerous move in motion through Petar Musa.

Musa’s first-touch shot was initially parried by Pantemis, but the striker tracked down the rebound and played a low first-touch cross to Valiente at the back post for a clinical finish.

Ariel Lassiter gave the Timbers a lifeline with a poking first-touch shot into the corner of the net in the third minute of stoppage time, but it proved too little, too late.

Portland had 56 percent possession throughout the match and outshot Dallas by 17 efforts to nine, reflecting their dominance in terms of ball control.

Despite being outshot heavily, Dallas goalkeeper Daniel De Sousa Britto, known simply as Daniel, was equal to everything thrown at him, registering four saves to protect the lead.

Pantemis made three saves in total for Portland, though there was little he could do to prevent Farrington’s composed opener or Valiente’s decisive late strike from finding the net.

The Timbers, who now sit at 9-11-5 for the season, will be left to rue a number of missed opportunities after failing to convert their territorial advantage into goals until it was already too late.

FC Dallas will now look to carry this form into their upcoming fixtures as they push for a strong final position in what has become a highly competitive MLS season.
