Liverpool Make Contact With Estevao Willian’s Representatives As Chelsea Value Winger At Over £100m
Liverpool have reportedly moved beyond casual observation and are now actively pursuing Chelsea winger Estevao Willian, directly contacting the Brazilian’s representatives.
The 19-year-old has struggled for consistent game time under Xabi Alonso this season, despite producing a promising debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
According to Football FanCast, Liverpool have reached out to Estevao’s camp with the aim of convincing him not to sign an improved contract with Chelsea.
The Reds are attempting to plant seeds of doubt in the player’s mind before Chelsea can finalise new terms that would reward his development and underline his importance to the club.
Andoni Iraola’s side have also sent scouts to watch the Brazil international, signalling a genuine and growing level of interest in the winger from Anfield.
Estevao is already contracted at Stamford Bridge until 2033, which means Chelsea sit comfortably in any potential negotiation and face no pressure whatsoever to sell.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea have no plans to sell the winger, with the club said to be relaxed about the situation despite his reduced role this season.
The Brazilian managed eight goals and four assists across 36 appearances in his first Chelsea campaign, but opportunities have become harder to come by following Alonso’s tactical adjustments.
Recent reports suggest Estevao has started only once in Chelsea’s opening five competitive games this season, a run of limited involvement that Liverpool will hope becomes a source of frustration.
Chelsea’s resolve is backed by a firm valuation, with reports placing their asking price at around €110m to €120m, the equivalent of roughly £95m to £104m.
That figure makes this one of the most ambitious transfer pursuits Liverpool could conceivably launch, yet the logic behind their interest is clear given their squad needs.
Estevao fits the profile of a versatile attacker Iraola could build around for years, with the left-footed winger particularly dangerous when given space against defenders one-on-one.
Liverpool’s relatively limited specialist options on the right wing make the pursuit even more understandable from a squad-building perspective as the club looks to strengthen its attack.
The reality, however, is that forcing any deal through in the near term appears extremely difficult given the length of Estevao’s contract and Chelsea’s financial position.
Liverpool may not be able to engineer a transfer now, but making early contact ensures Estevao is aware that a major alternative exists should his situation at Chelsea fail to improve.
