Julian Alvarez taking drastic action after Arsenal transfer failure as striker 'deceived'

Julian Alvarez is reportedly considering dropping his agent after Arsenal and Barcelona failed with attempted summer moves for the forward. Alvarez was one of the names dominating the transfer window amid speculation over his future.

He had his heart set on a move from Atletico Madrid to Barcelona, but a public spat between the two clubs made that virtually impossible. It was a situation that Arsenal wanted to take advantage of.

The club made it clear that they wanted to sign the 26-year-old in the final days of the summer transfer window. They were however unable to convince the player to make the move, and therefore didn’t push on with talks with Atletico.

Alvarez returned to action earlier this month, coming on as a substitute in the 3-0 loss against Athletic Club. He was named in the starting XI for the Champions League clash against Liverpool last week, providing an assist for Atletico’s goal in a 2-1 defeat.

He has, however, missed the last two La Liga matches, with the club confirming his absence is due to injury.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo now reports that the Argentine is ‘seriously considering’ changing his agent. He has been represented by Fernando Hidalgo throughout his career, but could now be set for a rare change.

The report says that there have already been contact with The Elegant Game agency, ran by former player Javier Pastore. The agent represents Enzo Fernandez, who completed a deadline day transfer from Chelsea to Man City.

Speaking about Alvarez amid the speculation over his future in the summer, Atletico chief executive officer Miguel Angel Gil Marin was quick to point the finger at both Hidalgo and Barcelona.

“There have been people who have been trying to deceive him, to confuse him.”

It’s added that a change in representation could be seen as a gesture of goodwill from Alvarez to Atletico to try and repair the relationship. The forward was roundly booed by fans amid the talk over is future in the summer window.
