Ian Wright shares what he wants to happen to Man City’s titles amid Arsenal claims

Manchester City’s case with the Premier League appears to be coming to a head after the Cityzens were found guilty on 114 financial rule breaches.
Pending an appeal process, City are in line to face some pretty strict punishments here, and there have been suggestions that they could be stripped of their titles.
The idea of City being stripped of their titles is interesting, as the runners-up in those respective seasons may well be inclined to believe they should be awarded these trophies.
Arsenal could be in line for some extra Premier League titles, and now, speaking on Stick to Football, Ian Wright has shared what he thinks should happen here.
Ian Wright shares Man City title verdict
Wright gave his view on what should happen with City’s titles and their ongoing situation.
The pundit explained that he does think City should be stripped of their trophies, but he claimed that he doesn’t think any other team should be given them instead, claiming that this period should just be blank.
“Just on the particular point, stripping Manchester City of their titles that they won, forget who they go to, forget the second place and all that. Just do you believe Manchester City should be stripped of the titles that they won?” Wright was asked.
“Yeah. And no one gets them. It’s just that that’s a blank period. It’s a blank period,” Wright said.
Wright’s solution does sound sensible, but do we really want the history books to look like that?
If City are stripped of their titles and the award is left blank, then we will have a period where six out of the last nine seasons will have no champion.
This would be a true stain on the English game, and it would almost provide some sort of satisfaction for City in years to come that they were that disruptive and able to leave a permanent stain on the sport.
In some ways the mark of ‘No champion’ is more powerful than the name ‘Manchester City’ on the Premier League trophy, and for that reason, there is an argument for giving City’s trophies away.
