Henry not buying the early season hype despite Arsenal’s fine start to the season

There has been plenty of hype surrounding Arsenal’s early-season form, as well as that of teams such as Manchester City, who have won all their league matches so far. At the same time, some fans appear to believe Paris Saint-Germain are in trouble because they have struggled to win domestic matches this season.
The Premier League is only three games into the campaign, but Arsenal have continued the momentum from the end of last season with consecutive victories. They also beat Manchester City in the Community Shield and have won their opening Champions League match.
Every team prepared thoroughly for the new season and was expected to begin the campaign with plenty of energy. However, not all the top clubs have enjoyed the same winning runs as Arsenal, which has naturally encouraged Gooners to believe their team could enjoy another successful campaign.
Henry urges caution over Arsenal
Despite Arsenal’s impressive start, Thierry Henry believes it is still far too early to make major conclusions about the campaign. The Frenchman does not want the early results to create excessive expectations, pointing to how quickly circumstances can change.
Henry highlighted Liverpool as an example of why teams should not be judged too early. He explained that expectations surrounding them changed dramatically within a short period despite their previous success.

Early form can quickly change
Henry also pointed to the work being done by other managers and suggested that clubs need time before their potential can properly be assessed. The former Arsenal star said via Goal:
“Everyone was like, ‘Liverpool know how to win. I don’t see how they’re not going to win the title again (in the 2025/2026 season)’.
“Two weeks after, it went south for so many reasons. When they didn’t buy anyone, they won the league with Arne Slot. They went on to buy people, they imploded. That’s why when people ask me, ‘Who is a challenger, who is a contender? Do you think if that player goes there, they can challenge?’, I say, ‘Hey, we have to wait. Let Maresca work, let Xabi work’.”
Henry’s comments provide a reminder that strong starts do not guarantee how a season will eventually develop. Arsenal deserve credit for their excellent beginning, but there is still a long way to go before the outcome of the campaign becomes clear.
The Gunners will hope their impressive form continues, but Henry believes patience is necessary before anyone can confidently declare them favourites for success.
